Dell TL4000 Library Enhances Backup Performance With LTO4, LTO5 and LTO 3 Media Tape Generations by Jessica McIntosh
Satisfaction of stringent government regulations (European Union Data Retention Directive, Sarbanes Oxley etc.) and heightened data security objectives have data administrators clamoring for robust, in-expensive and intelligent backup solutions. Dell has designed a versatile, expandable and high-performance TL4000 tape library, the simple solution to the many data protection challenges. Dell TL4000 library provides excellent automated backup solution to a variety of small to large-scale enterprises. Above all, TL4000 library delivers a remarkable capacity of 144 Terabytes (compressed) within a smaller footprint. Three generation of LTO ranging from LTO-3 tape up to the newest LTO5 tape can be used with Dell tape library. Its compact 4U form factor enables the organizations with limited data-center space to efficiently manage the growing corporate databases. Its automated backup performance helps to quickly store and restore data. As a result, the human interventions as well as the operating errors are significantly reduced.
LTO ultrium5 tapeâs capacity is almost twice as that of LTO4 media cartridge. 1500GB data can be backed up onto LTO-5, and 800 GB on LTO4 ultrium tape. These are the native capacity; their compressed capacity is 3.0 TB and 1.6 TB respectively. Multiple slots feature in TL4000 library that can accommodate up to 48 media tapes. In addition, an advanced robotic system has been incorporated to help move the tape cartridges without any intervention of IT staff. This advantageous feature boosts the throughput speed, reduces the risk of rough tape handlings and helps to consolidate your backup tape resources.
LTO5 drive achieves an exceptionally high backup rate of 504 GB/hr. Up to four drives can be connected to the TL4000 PowerVault tape library. That means the maximum backup rate of Dell library seamlessly extends to 2.016 TB/hour, which is the highest in its tape library class. That is why the organizations having problems with increasing data protection requirements prefer the TL4000 library solution. You can secure your data with advanced data encryption that is available with Dell LTO 4 tape and LTO5 media format. Encryption feature in not supported by LTO ultrium 3 technology, whereas WORM functionally is available in all of these LTO generations.
