A Macintosh server is a server operating system that is created by Apple Inc. It is based on UNIX and the first version of the Macintosh Server was the Mac OS X Server 1.0. It was based on Rhapsody and it had a runtime layer known as Blue Box for running the operating system applications in a separate window.
This sever version of Macintosh is almost identical in architecture to the desktop of Macintosh, the only difference being that it has work group management and the administration software tools. With these tools you can have network services and also have mail transfer agents, domain name server and so on. You would also find various additional service and tools such as chat server, calendar server, web server and so on.
This server is the operating system in the Xserver computer and the rack mounted server computers both of which are designed by Apple. It is also preinstalled by option on the Mac mini and the Mac Pro and is also sold separately so that you can use it on any Macintosh computer which has all the minimum requirements of this.
With this server operating system organizations can communicate, collaborate and can also share the information. The basis of this server software is an open source foundation by the name of Darwin and it uses the standards and the protocols of the open industry.
In a Macintosh server you would get service and applications which are useful for the works such as file sharing and sharing contact information. With the help of these services you can also share calendars, send instant messages which are absolutely secure and can also schedule events.
